Description
When archaeologists discover the ruins of the ancient city of Troy, there is conjecture about the truth of Homer's stories, the Iliad and the Odyssey. In Greenland, a group of researchers discover a medieval ship buried half a mile deep in the ice; on it they find a clockwork map with a mechanism that traces the path of Odysseus's famous ship as it sailed away from Troy. But the route detours, and the map opens to reveal a fiery river leading to the subterranean world of Tartarus, the Greek name for Hell. When word of Tartarus spreads, tensions explode, terrorists attack, and the phantasmagoric horrors found in Homer's work turn out to be real. [From publisher's description]
